Bryan School Board Advances More Bond Projects & Holds Yearly Reorganization

The Bryan school board unanimously approved the designs of four more building projects approved by voters last year during Monday night’s meeting.

A $5 million dollar expansion at Rudder adds ten classrooms, two science labs, and expands cafeteria seating by more than 300. At Johnson Elementary, an estimated $2.8 million dollar project includes seven more classrooms. And repairs and renovations were adopted for Bryan High at an estimated $1.5, and $1.1 million at Bryan Collegiate. Construction on all four will start next spring.

In other business, most of the time taken at Monday night’s Bryan school board meeting was behind closed doors.

The reason was to debate in private the board leadership for the next 12 months. After about one hour in executive session, there was a 4-3 vote for president. Doug Wunneburger was elected with the votes of Trey Moore, Felicia Benford, and John Street. Wunneburger defeated former president David Stasny, who received support from newly elected members Mark McCall and Ruthie Waller. Without opposition, Moore was named vice-president and Benford was re-elected board secretary.
