Since Valentine’s Day, the average has been just over one theft per week.
For the last four and a half months, UPD received 84 theft reports. 39 of the stolen e-scooters and bicycles were taken from outside on-campus apartments and residence halls.
UPD’s anti-theft suggestions includes:
– Consider using a high-security U-lock.
– Use a lock that properly fits the scooter or bike.
– Consider attaching an internal GPS tracker.
– Remove the battery pack whenever possible.
– Take the scooter with you whenever possible.
– Keep locks off the ground, where thieves can gain leverage to pry them open and break them.
– Park in well-lit, conspicuous areas and in view of cameras.
– Register all electric scooters or bicycles with Transportation Services.
