Finalist Chosen For Brazos County’s New Health Department Director

The Bryan city council on Tuesday, without comment, approved the finalist selected to become the next director of the Brazos County health department.

The College Station city council will consider the appointment on Thursday and the Brazos County commissioners court next Tuesday.

Santos Navarrette Jr. would replace Ken Bost, who is retiring after 34 years.

Navarette has spent 15 years in public health positions, the last five as director in the Abilene-Taylor County department. Before that, Navarette spent 28 years in the Air Force.

The health department is governed by a board with members from both cities and the county.

Navarrette was selected by a search committee made up by a Bryan councilman, a county commissioner, and the dean of the Texas A&M school of public health.
