More than $8 million dollars in street work has been approved by the Bryan city council.
$5.5 million is going into rebuilding and improving West 26th Street, from Parker to Brazos, along with eight blocks of sidestreets between William Joel Bryan and 27th.
City engineer Paul Kaspar detailed the project, which also includes new sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and lighting.
Councilman Ben Hardeman said this project dates back to at least 2003.
Another $2.6 million is going into improvements along 29th between Villa Maria and Memorial, including moving utility lines underground. A vice president at CHI St. Joseph Health, Ricardo Diaz, thanked the council for the project, which follows the opening of the hospital’s new trauma center.
Both projects were over budget…by a combined $486,000 dollars…due to a continuing demand in the construction sector.
