Blinn College trustees are moving head with major construction projects in Bryan and Brenham.
Approval was given during the board’s January meeting to seek competitive sealed proposals from contractors for services related to cast stone replacement and exterior wall rehabilitation at six buildings on Bryan’s Villa Maria campus. That work, which is estimated to cost between $2.5 and $3 million dollars, affects Bryan campus buildings A, C, D, F, G, and H. The project proposal includes reconstruction of the Library (C) and Student Center (F) entrance facades, replacement of all suspended cast stone and exterior wall expansion joint sealants, and pressure washing and application of a penetrating sealer to exterior masonry surfaces and cast stone elements.

Trustees also awarded a $2.47 million dollar contract to renovate the Brenham campus library to Madison Construction of Bryan. Construction is scheduled to start in February and be completed in July. The original budget was $2 million. Additions to the project includes adding a fire suppression system, asbestos removal, new exterior windows, and adding utilities for a proposed coffee shop.

Trustees also approved issuing $30 million dollars in revenue bonds to finance the construction of a new building in Brenham for science, technology, and innovation programs. The board also authorized administrators to request qualifications for an architect to design the proposed facility and to request proposals for construction manager at risk services. The bonds will be paid off by student revenue from all Blinn campuses.
