Bryan School Board Hears Committee’s Continuing Work For May 2020 Bond Issue

During the board’s September 3 meeting, there was no opposition to allowing administrators to receive requests for proposals from companies interested in overseeing the bond issue campaign and if approved, construction projects. The board could make a selection on October 21.

Also during the September 3 meeting, board members expressed no opposition to the bond issue including a $10 million dollar transportation center, which would replace what has been in use since 1976.

BISD director of instructional services Julea Johnson outlined what was wrong with the present facility and what would be done while the new center was being built if construction continued into a school year.

The board discussed during the September 3rd and August 27th meeting, a nearly $2 million dollar renovation of the Stephen F. Austin middle school annex.

It was also recommended by superintendent Christie Whitbeck and chief of staff Ginger Carrabine during the August 27th discussion.

Board member David Stasny questioned during the September 3rd discussion why former administrators did not include renovating the SFA annex as part of the 2014 bond issue in an effort to add classrooms.

Eight of the 12 annex classrooms are used by the students in the popular Odyssey program. Two more rooms are used as dance studios.
