The Bryan city council gets its first look at the fiscal year 2019 budget.
The proposal calls for no change in the property tax rate, assessed valuation increasing slightly over six percent, and sales tax revenue rising four and a half percent.
Staff also recommend no rate increases for electric, water, or trash.
The proposal would add 11 employees. That includes three more police officers and the city picking up the salary of six firefighters who were previously paid by federal grants. Also proposed is another code enforcement officer and another person in the city’s marketing office.
City employees would receive a three percent pay raise, and some in high demand public safety jobs would get an additional two percent.
One time expenses next year includes $500,000 dollars for new downtown holiday lights, $344,000 related to the costs of annexing property in and around the RELLIS campus, and $500,000 for a parks improvement plan.
