AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A Texas House colleague of state Rep. Ed Kuempel says the Seguin Republican will be in a medically induced coma for 1 to 3 days.
State Rep. Charlie Geren told other lawmakers today that Kuempel had suffered a massive heart attack when he was found unconscious in a Capitol elevator.
A Kuempel aide says the lawmaker is in stable but guarded condition at a Brackenridge Hospital. Kuempel spokeswoman Kerri Davidson said Wednesday morning that the next 24 to 48 hours will be a critical time for the representative.
A Capitol staffer who found him said he was unconscious with a faint pulse when she arrived late last night.
