Bryan Man’s 40th Trip To The Brazos County Jail Includes A Jury Conviction For Crimes Against A Police Officer

The 40th time that a Bryan man goes to the Brazos County jail, it is associated with a Brazos County district court jury conviction of threatening a Bryan police officer over 30 times. A news release from the district attorney’s office also says the jury convicted 49 year old Bobby Williams Jr. for evading arrest with a prior conviction. The trial judge sentenced Williams to a controlling sentence of eight years for the felonies. Prosecutors say the crimes happened after BPD responded to a disturbance created by Williams in September 2022. Online records show the jury found Williams not guilty of attempting to take a weapon from an officer. A spokeswoman in the DA’s office says Williams is awaiting three more trials in Brazos County. One is from a May 2023 arrest for felony possession of a controlled substance. Another is from a March 2023 arrest for misdemeanor resisting arrest. And the third is from a September 2022 arrest for misdemeanor resisting arrest and criminal trespassing. News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office: On February 13, 2025, Judge Kyle Hawthorne sentenced Bobby Williams to 8 years in prison and 24 months state jail after a Brazos County jury found him guilty of Retaliation and Evading with a Previous Conviction. On September 26, 2022, Bryan Police officers responded to the area of Dunbar Drive and Manning for a civil disturbance. The first officer on seen found the defendant, who matched the description of the man causing the disturbance. The defendant then ran away from officers before being apprehended. Once secured in handcuffs, the defendant began to go on an 90 minute tirade. The defendant threatened one officer over 30 times. These threats included threats to assault the officer, sexually assault the officer, and sexually assault the officer’s wife. In March of 2023, a few months after the offense, the defendant was arrested for Resisting Arrest, where he again threatened law enforcement with physical assault. In May of 2023, the defendant was arrested once more for possession of cocaine. During the punishment phase, the State presented additional evidence of the defendant being convicted and sentenced to prison for Assault on a Public Servant, for biting an officer while they attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute. Statement from assistant district attorneys Abigail Goodman and Kara Comte: “The defendant has had a history of violence and repeated threats to police officers and their families. A Brazos County judge and jury saw the defendant’s actions for what they were and responded accordingly.”

TxDOT Plans At Tabor Road And The Freeway Includes Designating A New Farm To Market Highway

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Bryan district office has plans to change traffic at another location in Bryan. Next year, two lane traffic on Tabor Road in front of Arena Hall by the freeway will become only southbound. It’s part of adding a center lane on Tabor Road at the freeway and adding a sidewalk that will connect to an existing sidewalk on Wilkes Street. The project also means renaming the portion of FM 974 between Highway 21 and the freeway as FM 823. The FM 974 designation will continue east of the freeway. A TxDOT spokesman tells WTAW News that reconfiguring the section of Tabor Road to one way traffic “will result in a break in the continuous access of FM 974. The break in continuous access is why we are proposing to redesignate FM 974 south of SH 6 as FM 823.” Click HERE to read and download more information from the TxDOT website. TxDOT anticipates design plans to be completed by the summer of 2025 with construction starting in early 2026. TxDOT is currently in the process of acquiring one acre of right of way. Bryan City Council Adjusts Some Parks & Recreation Fees For The First Time Since 2021

The Bryan city council approves the first changes in the fee schedule for parks and recreation programs and services since August of 2021. Deputy city manager Hugh Walker and city manager Kean Register said this follows studying Bryan’s fee schedule compared with cities with similar parks departments. Walker noted there were some increases or first time additional fees charged to non residents. And there is a new $50 dollar cleaning deposit to rent a park pavilion area. What the council approved was recommended by Bryan’s parks and recreation advisory board last November.
