New Parent Company Of CHI St. Joseph Is Refinancing Debt

It’s been a year and a half since a new owner was announced of the CHI St. Joseph health system.

Another piece of merging Catholic Health Initiatives into a new non-profit corporation was approved at this week’s Brazos County commission meeting.

What’s considered as a simple formality by the new owner…Common Spirit Health…involves refinancing up to $65 million dollars of bonds that paid for three local projects.

Commissioners approved the initial bonds, which place no liability on the county.

Up to $45 million involves St. Joseph projects at the regional health center and adjoining properties in Bryan.

Up to $15 million involves St. Joseph’s College Station emergency center along the freeway.

And up to $5 million involves St. Joseph’s health express care center in College Station.

According to documents provided to the county, Common Spirit Health is refinancing more than $4 billion dollars in debt elsewhere in Texas and seven other states.
