Public Hearing on City of Bryan Proposed 2027 Fiscal Year Budget
The Bryan City Council will be holding a public hearing next week on the proposed 2027 fiscal year budget. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 5:30pm in the City of Bryan Municipal Office Building at 300 S. Texas Avenue, Bryan, Texas 77803. The public can review the city’s proposed budget online at www.bryantx.gov/fiscal-services/#budget. Paper versions are available for viewing at the Clara B. Mounce Library or in the City Secretary’s office. The budget will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget by $3,092,366 or 4.68%, and of that amount $2,118,102 is tax revenue from new property added to the tax roll this year. Members of the public are encouraged to provide input through any means available and/or to attend the public hearing. Public comments will be heard on the 25th. Bryan Police Say Skeletal Remains Found May Belong to Missing Female
The Bryan Police Department says the skeletal remains uncovered Wednesday are believed to be those of a female. An identification card was located near the remains and after making contacting with family, they confirmed that their loved one has been missing for an extended period of time. A surveying crew located the remains yesterday in the 5900 block of Jones Road, near what is believed to be a homeless encampment. The preliminary identification is not being released. The remains will now be the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification. They will conduct a complete examination, including DNA analysis, and dental comparisons, in hopes of confirming the decedent’s identity. City of College Station Encourages Residents To Utilize Cooling Stations
A heat advisory will be in effect through Friday evening. Temperatures will be in the triple digits and the heat index could reach 108 degrees. The City of College Station encourages residents who need a break from the heat to take advantage of cooling stations around town. The following air-conditioned municipal facilities are open to the public during normal business hours Thursday and Friday: Lincoln Recreation Center: 1000 Eleanor St. | 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Meyer Senior and Community Center: 2275 Dartmouth St. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Southwood Community Center: 1520 Rock Prairie Road | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. City Hall: 1101 Texas Ave. S. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Gary Halter Nature Center: 3555 Rock Prairie Road W. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Larry J. Know the Signs: Monitor yourself and others for heat-related illnesses: Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, headache and nausea.
