CS Council Approves New School Zones and Speed Limits

Motorists around Consolidated High School have to deal with new speed limits and school zones.

Both were approved by the College Station city council at its last meeting and are now in affect.

Public Works Director Chuck Gilman says the school district made the request for the school zone after a student was injured at Welsh and 2818.

Councilman James Benham wanted additional crosswalks on Welsh and telling students to use them.

Gilman told Benham that adding 24 hour flashers to mid-block crossings would be forgotten by drivers.

Preceding the unanimous votes, council John Nichols quizzed Gilman about the variety of speed limits that will take place on Welsh and Nueces from Consolidated to 2818.

The speed limit on 2818 from Wellborn to north of George Bush Drive was reduced from 60 to 55.

Police say there will be a two week grace period before tickets are issued.
