The city of College Station is picking up an unexpected $219,450 for repairing streets.
That’s after the city council at its last meeting approved the sale and removal of about 19,000 tons of surplus asphalt that was milled or removed from city streets.
Public works director Donald Harmon told the council it was the first time those materials were sold to private contractors.

Other business at the last council meeting included awarding a $4.57 million dollar contract for an expansion of athletic facilities at Veterans Park; adding two additional full size, synthetic turf athletic fields, associated lighting and site drainage, a restroom facility, parking spaces, and other amenities.
