The College Station city council approves pursuing a $3.6 million dollar federal housing grant.
Raney Whitwell in the city’s community development office told the council the money, if awarded, could go towards three types of expenses.
The city could buy homes, repair them, and sell them to either qualified income residents or to a non-profit that would rent them to those who meet income requirements.
Another use, if awarded, would create affordable housing by increasing housing density.
Federal money could also pay for a comprehensive housing capacity study.
