City Of Bryan’s Oil Recycling Center Is Temporarily Closed To Make Room For A New Tire Recycling Center

The city of Bryan’s oil recycling center is temporarily closed.

That’s after the city council at its last meeting awarded a construction contract to expand the municipal services center on Waco Street to include tire recycling.

The $87,000 dollar project was not included in this year’s city budget. City staff hope to generate enough savings in the solid waste budget through the rest of the fiscal year to cover the unplanned expense.

Construction is expected to be completed February 1, weather permitting.

The project calls for a drive through lane to drop off tires, which will be stored in a trailer. There will be a small office building and a second building to repair trash containers.

Two fulltime city employees will assist customers. They will be assisted by contract workers from the Junction 505 disability support.

That arrangement will be similar to what’s been happening at the city recycling center in the parking lot of Walmart on Briarcrest, which will be closing at date yet to be announced. A city spokeswoman tells WTAW News they have not heard a closing date from the property owner.
