An outside rate study done by BTU determined costs are rising faster than the growth in customers.

Spokesman Joe Mancinelli told the council BTU customers outside Bryan will continue paying a lower rate.

BTU consultant Joe Mancinelli tells Bryan councilmen Paul Madison & Art Hughes how rural customers pay a lower electric rate compared to urban customers.

Residential customers in BTU’s rural service area, including College Station, would pay six percent more for electricity plus an additional $1.46 a month to cover administrative fees.

Residential customers in Bryan would pay 12 percent more for electricity and $2.13 a month more in service fees.

If approved, the increases would be phased in over two periods next year.

The Bryan council also heard no rate increases are planned next year for city water, trash, or wastewater service.
