Bryan school board members are moving forward on the district’s new career and technology center.
The district’s career and technology education (CTE) director, David Reynolds, received no opposition to next year’s offerings of automotive, construction, industrial engineering, and welding programs. Reynolds says representatives of local industries came up with those programs, and now they’re working on curriculum details.
The board also had no opposition to the architect Fred Patterson’s layout of converting two former manufacturing buildings on Mumford Road, which comes with more than 100 acres of land.
Patterson told the board more will be spent on equipping the former manufacturing plant than on remodeling it.
One of the buildings will be focused on classrooms and the other as a laboratory.
Administrators originally planned to recommend a name for the new center during Monday’s presentation. Instead, the board approved the administration’s request to possibly name the center without a person’s name attached, and possibly use a person’s name for a building inside the center.
