Bryan School Board Hiring 10 More Educators As Part Of New Discipline Management Plan

Bryan school board members were cheered by administrators Monday following a vote to add ten more educators.

The board agreed to hire ten campus specialists to help teachers with behavior management issues as part of a new discipline management plan.

Bryan ISD’s director of professional development, Kelli Norgaard, says building principals will request the additional assistance. Norgaard emphasized having the assistance available for new teachers.

The cost of the ten educators, who Norgaard wants to hire as soon as possible to be trained in time for the start of the next school year, is nearly $700,000 dollars.

Norgaard was one of nine administrators who reported to the board about the work that has been or will be done by seven subcommittees.

Members of the discipline task force, which was given the moniker “Culture & Climate Task Force”, included two school board members.

Board member Felicia Benford says she learned discipline problems are more at the elementary and middle schools. She also says the task force recommendations will save the district money and lead to former teachers returning to the district.
