The future of Coulter Field Airport was discussed at this week’s Bryan City Council meeting.

In the end, mayor Jason Bienski says there was a consensus but no vote supporting staff recommendations.

Public Works Director Jayson Barfknecht says staff wants control of  airport operations to stay with the city. Last year the council ended its relationship with an outside operator for the airport.

Staff drafted a list of repairs and improvements at Coulter Field totaling $4,456,200. The city’s share would be $495,300.  The remaining cost would be picked up by grants from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Barfknecht says the list includes a 1,000 foot extension of the runway to a total length of 5,000 feet.
