Bryan Council Approves Construction Contract For New Fire Station #2

Construction will start soon on a new Bryan fire station #2.

That follows a unanimous city council vote awarding a $6.3 million dollar contract. That is under the architect’s estimate of $7.2 million. But it was the second lowest price.

Fire chief Randy McGregor told city councilman Mike Southerland it was worth spending an additional $350,000 to hire a contractor with more experience in this kind of construction.

Price and experience were among the factors in scoring bids. The council awarded the bid with the highest score.

The new fire station #2 will be built west of Texas and north of Villa Maria, at the corner of Cavitt and Lawrence.

Construction is supposed to start in October and take a year to complete.
