Employees and volunteers who were part of the first six months of operating the new Bryan city animal center were applauded for their work at this week’s city council meeting.
Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker reported this week the projected cost for the first year is $270,126. That’s less than half the original estimate of $592,000 and also less than the $380,000 requested by the Brazos Animal Shelter for operations plus another $500,000 for a new building.
Walker says amenities includes dogs sleeping for the last three weeks on children’s nylon cots.

For people, Walker says the interior of the Finfeather Road facility is color-coded.
