Brazos Transit District Presentation to Bryan City Council

The Bryan city council heard this week what it will take for the Brazos Transit District to make any changes to bus service.

Director John McBeth says Bryan/College Station is one of six service areas for “The District”, but the twin cities are the only ones that don’t make a financial contribution.

McBeth says the district has more than $600,000 dollars available if matching funds are found.

Responding to public requests made to the Bryan council, McBeth says it will take another $2.5 million dollars to expand later into the evening during the week and bring back weekends. And to add another bus, the cost is $146,000 dollars.

McBeth says they have hired the local metropolitan planning organization to supervise a third party study that will look into a number of ideas.

One is adding express service between north Bryan and south College Station.

Addressing a question from councilman Mike Southerland, McBeth says any adjustments to the current schedule will generate a negative response from current riders.

Study recommendations are expected by the end of the year. That will be followed by public hearings before final action is taken by The District.
