Brazos County Has Its First Formal Capital Improvements Plan

For the first time, Brazos County has organized its variety of road, bridge, and building projects and other major purchases into a single capital improvements plan (CIP).

County judge Duane Peters says he and the county’s budget officer developed the 114 page document.

For the fiscal year that began October first, Brazos County’s first CIP totals more than $50 million dollars.

Topping the list is more than $8 million to expand the county’s juvenile detention facility. $6 million will come from reserves and the rest will come from bonds.

There is $4 million for roads and almost $2 million towards a future building to house the precinct one justice of the peace and constable offices.

Another $3 million dollars in bonds has been issued for the third expansion of the Brazos County Expo, $3.5 million on new financial software, and $1.5 million will go towards the future purchase of election equipment.

There is also $1.7 million for the fifth and final phase of renovating the courthouse.
