The USDA announced next year it will give schools a ground beef option that does not contain lean finely textured beef.
Diane Dahm, Director of Child Nutrition Services at College Station ISD, said they will choose this option. Dahm said she worries about the perception of the product. She said she wants to make sure the food they are serving to children is good tasting, healthy and safe.
Sundy Fryrear, Director of School Nutrition in Bryan ISD, said they will also choose not to serve products which contain lean finely textured beef. She said she wants food that is all natural with no additives.
Because of current regulations, both school districts cannot be 100% sure all the meat they serve does not contain lean finely textured beef.
