A&M Baseball No. 1

Baseballamerica.com: For the first time this year, there is a new No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger. Texas A&M went 3-1 last week to improve to 21-3 this season and takes over the top spot in the rankings.

Florida, which had been the top-ranked team since the Preseason Top 25, lost its first series of the year this weekend at Kentucky and drops to No. 2. Miami and Louisville, which both beat Top 25 opponents, move up to third and fourth in the rankings. Mississippi State rounds out the top five.

South Carolina is the biggest mover in this week’s rankings, jumping from No. 18 to No. 7 after a sweep at Mississippi. The Gamecocks have won their first six Southeastern Conference games (all against ranked opponents) for the first time in program history.

Three teams join the Top 25 this week. Georgia Tech and Kentucky re-enter the rankings at Nos. 23 and 24. Florida Atlantic, which has had six straight winning weekends to start the season 18-4, follows at No. 25. It is the Owls’ first time in the rankings since May 18, 2015. Georgia Tech, which handed North Carolina its first series loss over the weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C., is back in the Top 25 after a two-week absence. Kentucky fell out of the rankings after the second week of the season, but is back after beating Florida.

The SEC leads all conferences with 10 teams in the rankings, including five in the top 10. The Atlantic Coast Conference has six representatives.

Falling out of the rankings are UCLA, Clemson and North Carolina State. All three had losing weeks.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through March 27 and do not include ties.
