A rotten banana can get to the point of smelling like natural gas.
The odor led to a brief evacuation on the A&M campus Monday morning.
Lt. Allan Baron at University Police says there was a full response to the Blocker Building.
That was after an employee smelled what they thought was natural gas then pulled the fire alarm.
The source of the odor was a ripe banana, found in a third floor trash container.

More than $1.5 million dollars in federal money will be spent to build a shared use path along East 29th Street between Carter Creek Parkway and Autumn Circle. The Bryan city council was told at this week’s meeting (April 14) from public works director Jayson Barfknecht said the local metropolitan planning organization awarded the federal money. Barfknecht said the project, which will be built along the KBTX side of East 29th, will be administered by the Texas Department of Transportation. Councilman James Edge, who regularly drives this section of East 29th, welcomed the improvements that will benefit those who have either walk in the street or on a dirt path. The effort to build an interstate highway around Bryan/College Station is now in its 11th year. Another step to promote the construction of Interstate 14 are resolutions by the Bryan and College Station city councils. A resolution asking Congress to include the project in the next federal surface transportation authorization bill was unanimously approved by the Bryan council on April 14th. And the College Station council will consider similar action at its April 23rd meeting. The resolution mentions I-14 and the I-214 loop around Bryan and College Station. Nicknamed the “forts to ports” corridor, I-14 and eight loops and spurs will connect a dozen military facilities from multiple locations in west and south Texas and the Georgia coast. The resolution says the 1,300 mile project also reflects the need to meet 21st century transportation and economic challenges. The Bryan city council, without comment at Tuesday’s meeting (April 14), unanimously awards a $1.45 million dollar contract to replace the climate control system at the city’s newest fire station. For five of its eight years in operation, BFD station two north of Villa Maria and west of Texas has had temporary air conditioning equipment at a cost of almost $460,000 dollars. Surplus money in the city’s general fund will be spent on the unbudgeted cost. It is expected that the new HVAC (heating/ventilation/air conditioning) system will be running by July of 2027. Background information says the city is bearing the cost after consulting with external legal and subject matter experts. That followed unsuccessful attempts to get the building’s original architect and contractor to resolve the problems.
