Aggies Drop Opener to #10 Georgia

ATHENS – The Texas A&M baseball team dropped its series opener at No. 10 Georgia, 10-6, Thursday night at Foley Field.

Following back-to-back walks to open the first, Caden Sorrell put the Aggies (27-24, 10-18) in front with a three-run homer to right. The long ball marked the 12th of the year for the sophomore.

The Bulldogs (41-13, 17-11) answered with a solo homer in the bottom half of the first and another in the second to trim the lead to 3-2.

Wyatt Henseler responded for the Maroon & White in the third with a solo homer to center to push the lead to 4-2. The home run marked the 12th of the year for the graduate student and the 66th of his career.

In the bottom half, Georgia posted a seven-spot behind a pair of two-run doubles, an RBI single and a three-run homer to jump in front 9-4.

Kaeden Kent got a run back for Texas A&M in the sixth with a solo homer to right. The long ball served as the junior’s 11th of the season.

After the Bulldogs pushed across a run on an RBI single in the bottom half of the sixth, the Aggies answered with a run of their own on a wild pitch in the seventh to make the final 10-6.

Starter Ryan Prager (3-4) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs in 2 2/3 innings of work. In relief, Grant Cunningham made his SEC debut and worked a scoreless frame. Right-hander Clayton Freshcorn also recorded a scoreless outing, striking out two in 1 2/3 innings.
