In 2015, developers announced plans to build 1,400 homes on what was the former Texas World Speedway.

Owners of the Southern Point subdivision are now planning for almost 2,000 homes, according to background information from the last College Station city council meeting.

Before the council approved changes in the agreement with the Southern Pointe owner, mayor Karl Mooney discussed the subdivision, which could be annexed into College Station, on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs.

The city of College Station is no longer planning to buy land to build a fire station in Southern Pointe.

And the developer is planning a third commercial area along the Highway 6 frontage road.
