Bryan Council Postpones Decision On Texas Avenue School Zone Request

The Bryan city council has postponed action on a request to establish a school zone on Texas Avenue and side streets bordering the Harmony Academy charter school.

Buppy Simank made the motion that was unanimously approved at the council’s last meeting.

City traffic consultant Gary Schatz told the council there have been repeated requests for the school zone to TxDOT, since Texas Avenue is a state highway.

One of two public speakers asking for the 20 mile per hour speed limit was Georgia Seals, who is raising a grandchild who has attended Harmony for four years.

The other speaker was Stacy Watt, who is going into her ninth year as a teacher at Harmony.

The earliest the council can revisit the request in a regularly scheduled meeting is August 14th.
