The Bryan school board Monday night took more actions related to the November 2014 bond issue.
Unanimous votes included awarding a $15 million dollar contract for building the new Sul Ross elementary school to Madison Construction. The new building is scheduled to open in October 2016.
The board also voted without dissent to approve the design of expansions and renovations at Crockett, Henderson, and Jones elementaries.
The district’s director of construction services, Jeff Windsor, says the three will be bid together in an attempt to get more interest from potential contractors and reduce the cost.
New construction at Crockett includes five pre-K classrooms, seven restrooms, and relocating the slide playground. Renovations at Crockett includes three classrooms, the kitchen, and cafeteria serving lines.
New construction at Henderson includes seven classrooms, an art area, four restrooms, a teacher workroom, and a new kitchen. Renovations at Henderson includes one classroom and the music area.
At Jones, there will be a new canopy for student pickup and dropoff and sidewalk construction and repair.
The timeline at all three campuses calls for construction to start April 1, 2016 with substantial completion April 1, 2017.
