UPDATE: WTAW Receives 20 Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards

News Talk 1620 WTAW received 20 awards at the annual Texas Associated Press Broadcasters (TAPB) banquet Saturday night in Austin.

The awards were for local broadcasts done during 2018.

TAPB previously announced WTAW qualified for 19 first or second place awards.

In addition to learning the final decisions at the banquet, WTAW received the TAPB overall radio excellence award. It is the 10th time in the last 11 years WTAW has received this honor, which includes all radio markets in Texas regardless of population.

The remaining awards were in the radio division that includes all cities except Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.

WTAW’s first place awards were:

General Assignment: Chelsea Reber for “Planet K Comes to Bryan.”

Sports Story or Sports Series: Taylor Travis for “Texas A&M Football Signing Day.”

Continuing Coverage: Bill Oliver for “Remembering World War I Centennial.”

Sportscast: Zach Taylor.

Reporter: Bill Oliver.

Specialty or Beat Reporting: Bill Oliver for coverage of Texas A&M and the A&M System.

Sports Play-by-Play: Mike Wright and Mark Green for A&M Consolidated High School football.

Newscast: Andre Perrard.

WTAW’s second place awards:

Commentary-Editorial: The Infomaniacs segment “Reaction to Breast Cancer Story.”

Use of Actuality-Production: Scott DeLucia for “Councilwoman Speaking French”.

Sports Story or Sports Series: Zach Taylor for “Gator Bowl Preview”.

Serious Feature: Bill Oliver for “New College Station ISD Elementary School Boundaries.”

Light Feature: Scott DeLucia for “Councilwoman Speaking French”.

WTAW has won 19 awards from Texas Associated Press Broadcasters (TAPB) for news, sports, and feature reports during 2018.

WTAW is part of the TAPB division that covers stations in Texas except for the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin markets.

The TAPB contest selects two finalists in each category. First and second place winners will be announced at the TAPB’s annual banquet in Austin April 27th.
