COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Farmers pounced on the Plowboys for five runs in the top of the first inning and coasted to a 9-0 win to close out a three-game sweep of the Maroon and White Championship Series and claim the coveted Omaha Cup.
After Blake Allemand drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning, JB Moss tucked a ball inside the leftfield foul pole for a two-run home run. Boomer White followed with a single to rightfield and Logan Nottebrok plated him with a double down the leftfield line to stake the Farmers to a 3-0 lead. Nottebrok would come home to score when GR Hinsley reached on an error by the shortstop and a double to the gap in left centerfield by Patrick McLendon knocked in Hinsley for the final run of the inning.
The Farmers added two runs in the third on a two-run double by Hinsley and added a pair of runs in the sixth when Jonathan Moroney drew a bases-loaded walk and McLendon followed with a sacrifice fly for the 9-0 margin.
White led the Farmers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Hinsley batted 1-for-3 with three RBI. Moss and McLendon each knocked in two runs.
Turner Larkins picked up the win for the Farmers, pitching 4.2 scoreless frames, scattering two hits and four walks while striking out three. Jason Freeman blanked the Plowboys over the last 2.1 innings, fanning three of the eight batters he faced.
Over the three-game series, the Farmers batted .385 (37-for-96) led by Boomer White (.700), JB Moss (.600), Logan Nottebrok (.556) and Blake Allemand (.500) who all hit .500 or higher.
The Aggies are slated to start the 2015 campaign on Friday, February 13 when they host the Holy Cross Crusaders in a 6:35 pm contest on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
