Women’s Golf Grabs Third At Jim West Challenge

BOERNE, Texas- The No. 11 Texas A&M women’s golf team finished third at the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs with a 3-over 867 for the three-round tournament. Maddie Szeryk led the Aggies individually by tying for third at 212 (-4) in a tournament that featured nine squads that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Regionals.

“We didn’t have our normal games today,” said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. “We had to battle all day.”

“The bogeys on the 18th hole were hard fought, so I’m not upset about that,” added McCombs, of the squad’s three bogeys on the par-5 18th. “We just didn’t get started off on the right foot today and you can’t give a good team that many shots from the get go.”

Szeryk shot a 74 (+2) on Tuesday to finish the tournament in a tie for 3rd at 212. It is Szeryk’s best finish of the season and eighth Top 5 finish of her career. Szeryk finished just one stroke behind the tie between Texas Tech’s Gabby Barker and Kent State’s Michaela Finn for first place at -5.

The Aggies finished the tournament with a 292 (+9) in the final round, finishing behind Kent State (852/-12) and Florida State (864/E) in the 13-team field.

The Aggies have finished in the Top 5 of 14 of their last 15 tournaments, dating back to last season.

Thanya Pattamakijsakul and Bianca Fabrizio each tied for 18th at 219 (+3). Fabrizio shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, while Pattamakijsakul shot a 78 (+6). Fabrizio has finished in the Top 20 of all three tournaments she has played this year.

Andrea Jonama tied for 21st with a 220 (+4), and a 73 (+1) in the final round at the par 72 / 6,373 yard Tapatio Springs Resort. Callie Scheffler rounded out the Aggie lineup with a 223 (+7) in a tie for 30th after a 77 (+5) to close out the tournament. Emily Campbell played as an individual, shooting a 75 (+3) on Tuesday and a 228 (+12) for the tournament to finish 51st.

The Aggies return to action for their final tournament of the fall season from Oct. 25-27 with the Alamo Invitational at San Antonio’s Briggs Ranch Golf Club. Four of A&M’s six lowest 54-hole tournament scores in school history have been recorded at Briggs Ranch.
