McALLEN, Texas (AP) _ A South Texas woman is showing signs of improvement following a second surgery after she was paralyzed during severe turbulence on a Continental Airlines flight.
The McAllen Monitor reported Wednesday that an attorney for the unidentified 47-year-old woman said she underwent surgery on her neck that lasted at least four hours late Tuesday night.
Dr. Trey Fulp, an orthopedic spine surgeon at McAllen Medical Center who is treating her, said the woman is starting to gain sensation in her body. Fulp said the woman had been taken off a ventilator and was talking.
The woman suffered a fractured neck Monday when she was thrown against the ceiling during the flight from Houston to McAllen. She was in the airplane’s restroom at the time of the turbulence.
