NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) _ Five people with alleged ties to a Texas white supremacist gang are facing murder charges.
An indictment unsealed Monday in the East Texas town of Nacogdoches charges five people with murder in the 2007 deaths of David Clyde Mitchamore Jr., and his girlfriend, Christie Rochelle Brown. A sixth person faces two charges of accessory after the fact.
Mitchamore and the six defendants are alleged to have been members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas.
Federal officials say Mitchamore was killed for failing to pay a debt owed to a general in the group. Authorities say Brown was killed because gang members wanted to eliminate any witnesses.
If convicted, the six people indicted would face life in prison or the death penalty.
