Waterline Break At The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office Costs At Least $38,000

Tuesday’s Brazos County commissioner’s court meeting included approval of paying an unexpected bill from the sheriff’s office.

More than $38,000 dollars went towards removing water from the administration office after a pipe broke on October 5.

Sheriff Chris Kirk thanked his staff and a cleaning crew for removing three inches of water that got inside the building. Kirk says that was followed by four days of running fans and dehumidifiers.

The sheriff said there was a “hardball sized” hole in the waterline that is used for fire suppression. The hole in the line was outside the building. The leak did not affect operations at the jail.

Kirk was told the pipe has a 100 year warranty. Part of the cost will be reimbursed by the county’s catastrophic insurance policy.

Tuesday’s commission meeting also included approving the replacement of a chiller and boiler in the detention center at a cost of nearly $388,000 dollars.
