Those who regularly visit Brothers Pond Park in College Station have noticed an empty pond in recent weeks.

City spokesman Colin Killian says water started returning Wednesday after debris was removed.

That’s after the pond was drained at the request of the police department, looking for evidence in a murder investigation.

On Friday the fire, water services, and parks and recreation departments were involved in the refilling effort.

Killian says the fire department had scheduled a training exercise requiring up to 10,000 gallons of water.

The exercise was relocated near the park and the water was diverted down gutters and into the pond.

The pond is supposed to be back to normal in a few days and it’s hoped wildlife will return.
