VP Biden Visits Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Vice President Joe Biden says curbing violence against women also helps tens of thousands of American children who witness the violence and may become homeless because of it.

President Barack Obama’s administration is working with the State Department on an international effort to stop violence against women, Biden said Tuesday.

He made the remarks while visiting the National Domestic Violence Hotline Center in Austin. The center was founded in 1996 after Congress approved the Biden-sponsored Violence Against Women Act in 1994. The national hot line has fielded more than 2 million calls.

Biden also was attending two private Democratic National Committee fundraisers in Texas.
