COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M senior Tori Vidales was named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday.
Vidales joins 49 others on the list which includes 23 seniors, 18 juniors and nine sophomores, with freshmen ineligible for consideration.
The La Porte, Texas, native belted a team-high 17 home runs last year with 46 RBI and topped the team in walks (44) and slugging percentage (.661) en route to being named to the NFCA All-South Region Second Team.
The 2016 NFCA All-American started in all 60 games at first base in 2017 and was recently named to the Preseason All-SEC Team. For her career, Vidales ranks in the top 10 all-time in program history in batting average, RBI, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage and walks.
The Top 25 Finalists for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 25. While an athlete does not have to be on the “Watch List” to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 9 and the Top 3 announced May 23. The 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 29.
