COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M freshman Tori Vidales was named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team and joined freshman Ashley Walters on the SEC All-Freshman team, the league office announced today.
Vidales has been a cornerstone of the ball club this year, as one of only three players who has started throughout the entire season. Opponents quickly learned not doubt the freshman’s bat, who has hit a league second-best 18 bombs in her rookie campaign. Offensively, Vidales ranks second on the team with a .359 average and .769 slugging percentage, pacing the team with 48 runs, 56 hits, 52 RBI and 45 walks.
Walters settled into her role as a starter quickly, providing an offensive and defensive spark for the Aggies. The rookie catcher leads the program in doubles with 13 on the season, adding three home runs and 28 RBI. Her 200 putouts are a time high with 32 assists and a .971 fielding average.
The freshman are receiving the first SEC honors of their careers, in the same week that Vidales earned her first SEC weekly honors as Freshman of the Week.
The team travels to Baton Rouge this week, opening the 2015 SEC Tournament Wednesday, facing off against South Carolina at 4 p.m. To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to 12thMan.com and follow @Aggie Softball on Twitter.
