Vandals Blamed for Austin Wastewater Spill

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Officials are blaming vandals for a 250,000-gallon wastewater spill in southwestern Austin.

Austin Water Utility officials say the spill happened Sunday just off Loop 1 near Slaughter Creek Park. The utility says vandals blocked the sewer line with construction fencing and rocks, causing a spill into Slaughter Creek, a stream that feeds into the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer.

The utility is asking well users in the area to boil their water, and Austin parks officials have closed Barton Springs Poll for water testing.
