UT-Austin President To Reimburse School For Unapproved Business Class Flights

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The president of the University of Texas in Austin will reimburse the university $27,000 after an audit found he and his wife violated the school’s travel policy by flying premium class rather than economy on about 50 flights.

The Austin American-Statesman reports an internal audit found President Greg Fenves and his wife flew premium class without the proper approvals on trips for university business.

The university’s travel policy allows exceptions for health issues, lack of seating or a handful of other reasons, but auditors say Fenves’ travel from June 2015 to June 2017 didn’t meet those criteria.

A university spokesman says no tuition or tax dollars were used to pay for the travel and Fenves will reimburse the price difference between economy and business class.
