Two years ago, a state law about online solicitation of a child was declared unconstitutional.
Brazos County assistant district attorney Jessica Escue says the former solicitation law was written so broadly that it violated the free speech rights of those who were charged and/or convicted.
That resulted in charges being dropped or setting three people free in Brazos County.
Escue says the legislature rewrote the law during this year’s session went into affect Tuesday.
But it won’t apply to those who were previously charged and/or convicted.
Escue says some who were sent to prison will remain on other charges.
Escue says they review each case on an individual basis to determine if any other crimes were committed and their punishment on those convictions.
