Update with information from DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan and Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk:
A north Texas couple escaped serious injury after their private plane crashed south of Easterwood Airport.
DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan says the Cessna 172 took off from Edgewood…between Dallas and Tyler…and was headed to Port Aransas.
Morgan says the plane was about 10 miles south of College Station when the aircraft started having engine trouble. Morgan says the pilot did a 180 and was headed to Easterwood when the plane went down at 1:10 p.m.
Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk says the plane wound up in an industrial area off Dowling Road. During the landing the plane clipped power lines and struck the top of a building and a single axle trailer before coming to a stop in a parking lot.
Morgan says the pilot, Daniel Fox, and his passenger, Charlynn Fox…both from Edgewood…were taken to College Station Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The sheriff says no one on the ground was hurt.
BTU crews restored power to most customers in a short period. The sheriff said 19 customers had to wait for the FAA to clear the crash site, which the city of Bryan reported was shortly before 6 p.m. or almost five hours after the plane went down.

Brazos County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Stewart says both were transported to the hospital.
Stewart says the single engine aircraft came down between two commercial buildings near Dowling Road and started a grass fire.
The crash also caused a power outage. The city of Bryan reported BTU responded to restore service to approximately 170 customers.
