Friday update:
For the second consecutive day, law enforcement and state highway officials in Franklin are dealing with spilled chicken parts.
Friday afternoon, the Robertson County sheriff’s office reported another spillage on Highway 79 at the intersection of FM 46.
Original story:
Motorists were delayed by a “fowl” situation for about four hours Thursday in Franklin.
A semi was hauling a trailer of chicken waste from Palestine to Bastrop when it stopped at a traffic signal on Highway 79.
According to Franklin police, the driver is not sure whether he accelerated or braked hard.
But the driver’s power shifting caused chicken pieces to fly out of the semi trailer for about a quarter of a mile before the trucker stopped.
It took almost two hours for a clean up crew from Bastrop to arrive, then about an hour to clean up the mess.
The Robertson County sheriff’s office and TxDOT assisted with traffic control.
