UPDATE: Two Arrested in Downtown Bryan Bar Fight

UPDATE from BPD on Wednesday, March 13:

On March 12, 2019 an additional arrest was made in the incident at Bar 69.

Gaspar Salas age 27 of Hearne turned himself in on an Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon warrant.

Salas is accused of striking Joe Ruiz with a beer bottle just prior to Joe Ruiz leaving in his vehicle and striking the pedestrians.

The two victims that were struck by the vehicle were treated and released on March 9th at CHI St. Joseph Hospital.

UPDATE from BPD on Tuesday, March 12:

At 4:15 p.m. on Monday, March 11, the Criminal Investigation Division arrested Joe Ruiz age 33 of Bryan on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was arrested near the police department without incident.

The arrest was made in connection with the Bar 69 incident reported below.

Original Story:

Bryan police are investigating two bar fights that injured a total of eight people and an armed robbery that took place during a six hour span on Saturday morning.

Six of the eight people were hurt in and outside Bar 69 in downtown Bryan. Officers responded Saturday at 2:15 a.m. to the report of a fight that injured one person. Officers were told the person who was hurt drove away, in the process striking five pedestrians and sideswiping another vehicle. Two of the five pedestrians were taken to the hospital, and as of Saturday afternoon were in stable condition. The driver who struck the pedestrians has not been found.

At nearly the same time, more officers at the Knight Club on Wellborn Road, north of the Northgate district. Two more people are hospitalized in stable condition, one after being shot and the other with undisclosed injuries. According to a BPD news release, several shots were fired during several fights involving an undisclosed number of customers. No one has been arrested.

No one was injured in the armed robbery of at Palasota Grocery Saturday around 8 a.m. According to the BPD news release, a black man wearing all dark clothing entered the store with a gun and left with an undisclosed amount of money.
