UPDATE: Two Announce Running For Mayor, One in Bryan & One In College Station

Monday is the first day to officially file for local city and school races. Ahead of that, came two announcements Wednesday of candidates for mayor in Bryan and College Station.

The first declared candidate to become Bryan’s next mayor is a local businessman. Andrew Nelson is a co-founder and CEO of a technology company, Lisam America. Nelson is currently on Bryan’s comprehensive plan advisory committee and the board of the Research Valley Innovation Center. He is also a member of the Bryan Business Council (a correction from the original post that he was a former member). Bryan will have a new mayor, as Jason Bienski is term-limited from seeking re-election.

A second member of the College Station city council is running for mayor. Karl Mooney announced he will run for the spot being vacated by Nancy Berry who is joining the Brazos County Commission. Karl Mooney is completing his second term on the council, which has included two years as mayor pro tem. He is also a former member and chair of the city’s planning and zoning commission. Also seeking the mayor’s position is John Nichols.
