Tysarczyk’s Grand Slam Highlights Aggies’ 10-0 Run-Rule of CSU

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Junior Cassie Tysarczyk hit the first grand slam of her career in the bottom of the fourth to seal the five-inning run-rule as the No. 9 Texas A&M softball team topped Colorado State, 10-0 in the series opener.

The Aggies and Rams will play game two tomorrow at 4 p.m. All Bryan/College Station youth softball teams will receive FREE access to that game with the wearing of their team’s jerseys. All teams in attendance can attend a FREE postgame clinic, hosted by the Aggie softball team.

A&M wasted no time taking a lead, batting through the lineup and scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Emily Albus and senior Meagan May drew leadoff walks before a double down the left-field line by junior Nicole Morgan plated Albus for the first run of the game.

Senior Mel Dumezich also walked and was thrown out on an RBI fielder’s choice by junior Jenna Stark that sent May home for the 2-0 lead. With two outs, freshman Cali Lanphear doubled to right-centerfield, scoring Morgan and Stark, before an RBI single by junior Amber Garza plated Lanphear for the 5-0 lead.

The Aggies put runners on base in each of their four half-innings, and stretched to a 6-0 lead in the third. Lanphear hit a two-out double to right-center, her second of the night, and was pushed home on Garza’s second RBI base hit of the game. Both Aggies were 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Lanphear scored two runs.

In the bottom of the fourth an Albus single and two walks, by Morgan and Dumezich, loaded the bases before Tysarczyk hammered a pitch over left field to push the score to 10-0.

Colorado State put four runners on base throughout the game but had no answer for the powerful Aggie offense. A&M stranded just three runners on the night.

Dumezich (20-5) started the game in the circle and threw three perfect innings and striking out seven, before sophomore lefty Sara Mireles entered to finish the shutout. Mireles fanned one batter, walked one and gave up three hits as she tossed a career-best two innings. CSU starter Molly Randle (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs on six hits and five walks in 3.1 innings of work.

The Aggies and Rams will face off in game two of the three-game non-conference series, tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT. To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.
