Those who drive by the site of the new interchange by Easterwood Airport might be wondering about the absence of activity since the first of the year. According to Bob Colwell at the TxDOT district office in Bryan, the project is now three months behind the original schedule. Colwell says not much was accomplished between January and April due to the combination of weather, utility conflicts, and redesign issues. Colwell says they are looking at ways to get back on schedule, once what he calls the “delaying issues” are resolved. More work on the divergent diamond interchange at F-M 60 and F-M 2818 will start in the next week, and will really get going during Texas A&M’s summer break, when traffic volume is down.
On another local TxDOT project, Colwell says the next to last freeway ramp being built should be completed by the second week of May. Those are the southbound ramps in Bryan between M-L-K and W-J-B. When that opens, the last closure involves rebuilding the southbound Briarcrest exit ramp to tie that into a new auxiliary lane. The construction of new freeway ramps has been going on since June of 2013.
