Campaign season is upon us, and political signs are already decorating our local roadways.
But Bob Colwell from TxDOT’s Bryan District office says poor placement of a sign can be illegal.
“It is illegal to place any sign on or within the right of way,” said Colwell.
Colwell says this includes posting signs on trees, telephone poles, traffic signs or other objects on the right of way.
Some campaign signs have been removed.
“TxDOT will remove it without prior notice and all costs associated with sign removal will be paid for by the sign owner,” said Colwell.
TxDOT is storing signs at their office, and candidates can contact them for help with replacing it properly.
Citizens concerned about a sign can also call TxDOT’s maintenance office at 979-778-8054, and they will come out and take a look at it.
